Who loves Ikea? Everybody loves Ikea!!
However, Ikea light fittings can prove difficult to install for one reason or another even for electricians. I found inspiration for this micro blog when we were fitting another ‘Death Star’ light fitting in Wickersley, Rotherham last week. This is the third ‘Deathstar’ light fitting we’ve installed to date and each time the same problems keep cropping up! So I wanted to share some top tips for fitting Ikea lights.
Firstly I have to say if you want any electrical work doing you should contact your qualified local electrician rather than attempting it yourself!
Secondly and most importantly, all the Ikea light fittings we’ve fitted previously require a hook to hang them from the ceiling. This is the number one problem with the Ikea lights as the hooks DO NOT COME WITH THE LIGHT FITTINGS! (See featured picture). Here at G R Electrical Services, we now carry a pack of hooks on our work vehicles specifically for Ikea light fittings so we are prepared for any fitting a customer may have.
One more thing to mention is that the fittings also do not come with a bulb (or lamp if we are talking technical terms). We would always recommend using LED bulbs, not necessarily Ikea LED bulbs but quality branded LED bulbs with a minimum guarantee period of 2 years (ideally 3 years). This way you are assured to get the savings on your energy bils that LED’s provide but also are covered in case they prematurely blow.
If you have any questions regarding energy efficiency, LED lighting or indeed the awesome ‘Death Star’ light fitting from IKEA, get in touch with us and we’ll do our best to advise.
